Aklan SP Urges LTFRB To Probe “Colorum” Vehicles

This is Roxas Avenue with vehicles some of which are colorums.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Aklan has asked the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Region VI, Iloilo City to conduct surveillance or investigation over allegations on the operations and use of private owned vehicles (vans) for public transport in Aklan without franchise, hence “colorums”. (These are vehicles accepting passengers and collecting fare for ferrying them from one place to the other.)

Through Resolution No. 2012-211 sponsored by SP Member Nemesio P. Neron, the Aklan SP has requested LTFRB to conduct immediate investigation over the allegation of the Federation of Aklan Integrated Public Transport Inc. (FAIPTI).
Felix Sefres, Jr. FAIPTI President wrote the SP of Aklan through Vice Gov. Gabrielle Venus Calizo-Quimpo to complain over the operation of colorums to and from and within the routes in the province of Aklan.

Sefres furnished the provincial legislative body a listing of above 70 privately owned vehicles used as public transport without franchises. The listing bears the plate numbers and the operators of those colorum vehicles.

In a committee hearing Sefres attended at the Aklan SP Session Hall, he alleged he lodged the same kind of complaint with the LTFRB but no action has been taken so far. Sefres added that he is already disappointed over the inaction of the LTFRB on his complaint. The Land Transportation Office in Aklan however assured the body of its vigilance in running after the colorum vehicles but has not apprehended any. LTO Aklan vowed to cooperate with PAIFTI and the Philippine National Police in its campaign to wipe out colorum vehicles in Aklan.

SP Aklan passed Neron’s resolution during its 27th Regular Session on August 8, 2012. /MP
