In the political scene, Comelec Aklan is seriously implementing the designated common poster areas for candidates of the May 14 polls.
Campaign posters strategically posted in public areas other than the designated common poster areas by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), in Aklan will soon be scraped off and or removed.
This was announced during the recent meeting/conference called for by Comelec-Aklan with members of the Aklan media.
OIC Provincial Election Supervisor Lorena Tumbagahan said, "the task force specifically formed to remove the illegally-posted posters is composed of the Comelec, the PNP who will lead in the removal/scraping off of these posters at major thoroughfares in Kalibo and other towns to show the violators that the task force is serious in this campaign."
Dubbed "Operation Kakas Posters", Tumbagahan also invited the Aklan media to join in removing posters last Monday, February 26, document and witness that first-ever activity of the task force in Aklan this election season.
Some members of the Aklan media who attended the press conference identified a partylist candidate as having the most posters placed in public areas here.
Tumbagahan said "Operation Kakas Posters" in Kalibo will be replicated in all of Aklan’s barangays by deputizing barangay officials to do the same activity.
"The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Kalibo has already committed to help implement the task force’ operations in the barangays," said Tumbagahan.
"We call on the candidates and their coordinators in Aklan to avoid placing their posters in public places as this is punishable by law. They should only display their posters at designated common poster areas," Tumbagahan said. (By Venus G. Villanueva) /MP
