GSE Team In Aklan

One of the projects to foster world peace and understanding is the Group Study Exchange (GSE) of Rotary International. It is a cultural and vocational exchanges of business and professional men and women in the early parts of their careers between two countries. The GSE team is composed of five (5) led by a team leader who is an active member of a Rotary Club while the members are currently engaged in a business or profession of their choice, between 20 to 40 years old. They are not in anyway descendants or spouses of Rotarians. To finance the travel of a GSE team, Rotary International District may request the Rotary Foundation for a World Fund Award to cover the travel cost. The hosting district is responsible for expenses for board and lodging and other basic needs of the GSE team members. Since GSE is a people program of Rotary International, the team members are provided with hosts who provide them with all the amenities and other needs geared to realize the objects of visit and hasten fulfillment of people to people understanding. On February 27, - March 1, 2007, the Rotary Clubs of Kalibo and Metro Kalibo were hosts to the GSE Team from RI District 5420, California, USA. The team was composed of Janet Napier, 62 – team leader. The members are Sita Aeillo, 34, Beth Pitton August, 40, April Rosser, 25 and Lindsay Loft, 25. The five (5) have varied interests ranging from social works, graduate education, fundraiser for relief organization and laboratory analysis. Before going to Aklan, the GSE team visited Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Capiz. They attended the District Convention of RI District 3850 held in Boracay, Malay, Aklan on March 1 – 3 and left for the United States on March 4. /MP
