Concepcion Confiscates Fake Medicine

Ms. Mabel Ureta Concepcion, Regulation Officer of the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) in Aklan confiscated the alleged fake drugs from a group led by a certain Mariano Lopez alias Uncle Mar. The confiscation was held in Atong Atang Hotel, Kalibo, Aklan on Monday noon, November 12.
It was done on the third day Uncle Mar has been giving consultation and selling the alleged fake drugs. He was in Kalibo since November 10. Prior to his consultation and prescribing his drugs, his arrival was highly and repeatedly advertised in local radio stations in Kalibo during prime time.
Is Uncle Mar as medical doctor who is licensed to practice medicine? Some bystanders asked. He is not only prescribing and selling fake drugs, he is also having illegal medical practice, another bystander wondered.
Those who purchased the alleged fake drugs from Lopez were issued receipt believed not registered with the Bureau of Internal Revenue, according to Ms. Mabel U. Concepcion.
The receipts are credited to Bio Nutraceutical Products Corporation at Level 2, Ayala Center, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City.
“The counterfeit medicines are those which do not contain the desired dosage; those that are manufactured by unauthorized manufacturer, Concepcion pointed out. Besides being the BFAD Regulation Officer, Concepcion is also the representative of the Philippines Pharmacists Association in Aklan mandated to inspect and monitor new and existing food and drug establishments in the province.
The alleged fake drugs included: 1. Valeriana for insomnia, 2. Selene Capsule for breast pain; 3. GNC Kelp Tab for anti goiter or thyroid disease; 4. PP-Liver care for liver infections; 5. Clear View 1 Care, a herbal natural medicine for all eye diseases; and 6. KFO 1,000 for heart illness and vascular health.
Mariano Lopez was arrested and brought to the Kalibo PNP office for proper recording and investigation. However, he was later released. Kalibo Police Chief Maj. Arnold P. Ardiente said, investigation will follow, the result of which will be released to the public for their information and guidance.
The confiscated alleged fake drugs were inventoried. It will be sent to BFAD laboratory for study and analysis according to Ms. Concepcion.
The confiscation of alleged fake drugs was made during the presence of clients. Some of those who have already purchased the alleged fake drugs from Uncle Mar returned it and got refund of their money. /MP
