Kapehan Discusses Kalibo Airport



Kapehan Sa Aklan, one week after its launching on Saturday, March 29, discussed for the first time the situation of the Kalibo Airport. Engr. Percy Malonesio, manager of the Kalibo Airport discussed the present management system as being done in Kalibo Airport. He said, Kalibo Airport is open from 5:00 o’clock in the morning to 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon daily. Last year, some 340,000 passengers passed by Kalibo Airport.
Malonesio explained to the members of the Aklan tri media the present capabilities of the Kalibo Airport. He also explained the forthcoming construction of the terminal building to decongest the plane passengers in the departure area. He also disclosed the request to provide facilities like immigration, customs, and quarantine personnel to service plane passengers of foreign airlines landing at Kalibo International Airport.
Dr. Benny A. Palma, president of Aklan State University explained the role of the academe in the development of tourism education curriculum. He urged the private sector to evolve tourists friendly and hospitable services to encourage more tourists to visit the Province of Aklan.
Mr. Fernando Bermejo, manager of Philippine Airlines bared the development plan of PAL to promote tourism in the Province of Aklan. He complained of the terrible congestion in the Kalibo Airport which is not good to the visitors.
Chief Inspector Limuel Casataya, of the Aviation Security Command explained to the tri media members the security measures being followed in the Kalibo Airport. He assured the plane riding public that Kalibo Airport is safe place for travelers.
Congressman Joeben T. Miraflores, disclosed the short and medium term plans for the development of the Kalibo Airport. According to him, the P80 million terminal building construction will start on April 1. He also revealed the plan to extend the runway of the airport, improve the strength of the runway to make the landing and take off of bigger planes safer that may use the Kalibo Airport to other destinations in Asia. /MP
