Clean & green highways of Aklan

Picture shows a portion of the Banga - Altavas highway which is now the subject of re-greening under the Provincial Government of Aklan lead by Gov. Carlito S. Marquez. This project is geared to beautify barangay, provincial, and national roads in Aklan to make it beautiful and conducive for travel. It is designed to cajole more visitors and tourists to visit Aklan.

In the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan, a resolution is filed "Urging the people of Aklan to adopt measures to lessen the impact of the worldwide recession and economic crisis by using alternative materials as fuel for cooking instead of the conventional use of oil products and charcoal particularly taken from trees illegally cut from forest . . ."

According to the resolution, charcoal is taken from trees which effects destruction to the environment resulting to terrifying floods, horrible mud flows, soil erosion, and other destruction. In the Philippines, there is a need to plant and conserve trees. There are other fuel for cooking like, coconut trunks, shells, and leaves. Rice hull, saw dust, and other fuel materials are available.

The said resolution is authored by Hon. Plaridel Morania. It is referred to the Committee On Environ-ment for study and recommendation.

In its 10th regular session on March 12, SP Aklan also discussed resolution requesting the GSIS to release the dividends, pensions, and other benefits due to all DepEd officials and employees. /MP
