Aklan Mayors To Discuss Role In Crisis Situation

A Technical Working Group (TWG) for hostage crises in Aklan is set to discuss the role of local chief executives during hostage or crisis situations on Oct. 22.

Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) director Sr. Supt. Epifanio Bragais said Aklan’s 17 local chief executives are expected to attend the meeting facilitated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the provincial government of Aklan.

The TWG is composed of different agencies in the province, namely the Philippine Coast Guard, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Provincial Engineers Office among others.

The TWG was created after the Aug. 23 hostage-taking in Manila which caused the deaths of eight Hong kong tourists and the hostage-taker himself.

Bragais said Aklan does not want that similar incident would happen in the Boracay resort island.

Earlier, Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6), said that after the Luneta hostage taking crisis, the PNP has placed Boracay Island a priority for peace and order measures.

The said scheduled meeting of the mayor is considered as the first in the country.

The PNP hopes all the local chief executives will be attending the meeting so that they could be informed of their roles during crisis situations. (PNA) /MP
