Soroptimist International of Kalibo Holds Medical/Dental Mission


Some 263 patients, mostly children and the elderly from Brgy. Mobo, Kalibo, Aklan, were served by twelve 12 doctors and 10 dentists last September 24, 2010 as part of the medical and dental mission conducted at an agrarian reform community of DAR in Kalibo. Mrs. Ofelia B. Martelino, President of Soroptimist International of Kalibo, stressed their continuing projects and programs to help improve the lives of women and girls in the communities as well as ensuring that women attain economic and political equality in their lifetime.

The event also marked the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement to Adopt a Barangay between Soroptimist International of Kalibo and the Barangay Mobo represented by Brgy. Captain Wendell Tayco. He also welcomed this development as the barangay tries to reach out to various agencies to improve the quality of lives of the residents in the area.

Meanwhile, Aklan Vice Governor Gabrielle C. Quimpo, past president of Soroptimist International of Kalibo distributed vegetable seeds to the women farmers to help augment their farm incomes. Congressman Florencio T. Miraflores was also present to witness the occasion.

Barangay Mobo is an agrarian reform community of DAR Aklan in the municipality of Kalibo. Other sponsors of the event are Senator Manny Villar, Congressman Florencio Miraflores and Governor Carlito Marquez. /MP
