DSWD Conducts Media Forum On Social Pension

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region VI in cooperation with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Aklan conducted a Media Forum to update Aklanons regarding Social Pension and other DSWD programs. The media forum was held on June 27 at Ninos Ihaw-Ihaw, Bulwang, Numancia.


Ms. Judith Marte, Focal Person, DSWD Region VI discussed the Senior Citizen Pension which under the Republic Act 9994 government provide assistance to the senior citizens Php 500.00 per month stipend  to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs.


It will also improve the social life of the beneficiaries. It will reduce the incidence of hunger and to protect them from neglect, abuse or deprivation. 

According to Marte, Region VI has 19,904 indigent citizens, 77 years old and above. Aklan has 2,365 beneficiaries included in the program.

Ms. Sally Gayoma, Regional Nutritionist and Dietician discussed the Supplementary Feeding Program in Day Care Centers in addition to the regular meals of the target children.
The program aims to improve the knowledge of both the parents and the care givers to promote proper nutrition status of the children. As of 2013 there are 441 Day Care Centers in Aklan with the total number of 12,749 target children, Gayoma added. 


Ms. Venus Villanueva, Focal Manager, PIA Officer in Aklan, Mr. Libni Inocencio, Focal Person on Social Pension – Aklan and information officers of municipalities in Aklan, officials of different government agencies in the province and members of Aklan tri-media attended the forum.  /MP
