P’Noy Forms TWG For Boracay & Baguio Preservation

On May 17, 2013, Malacañang through Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Jr. issued Memorandum Circular No. 47 enjoining all departments, agencies, and local  government units to actively support the technical working group (TWG) on Baguio and Boracay for the preparation of comprehensive plans and programs to preserve and develop these places.

In issuing the memorandum, Malacaňang noted that the rapid growth, commercialization, and the lack of a comprehensive development and zoning plan have caused the degradation and deterioration of Baguio and Boracay, the two places being the leading tourist destinations that are considered national assets.

Earlier, the President has directed  the Secretaries of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, Interior and Local Government and Justice to constitute a TWG to review the environmental, commercial, tourism, and law and order situation in Baguio and Boracay for the purpose of developing comprehensive plans to preserve these vital national issues.
The circular, according to Ochoa, is being issued to ensure full support and cooperation to the TWG for the successful completion of its tasks and functions.

A copy of the circular was furnished to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan by Aklan Governor Florencio T. Miraflores.

During the 3rd regular session of the 16th SP, the body expressed full support to the intent of the Circular and the workings of the TWG.

The composition and functions of the TWG on Boracay and Baguio has yet to be received by the Province of Aklan. /MP
