PLGMI Holds Seminar, Launches Newsletter


The Philippine League of Government and Private Midwives, Inc. (PLGPMI) Aklan chapter in cooperation with Public Health Office/UNFPA held its 1st Scientific Seminar and Launching of PLGPMI Aklan Newsletter last week. It was held at ACP Centerpoint, Kalibo, Aklan.
The highlights of the program were the message of Governor Carlito S. Marquez, the lecture of Ms. Florence T. Loredo on "Updates on Family Planning; Dr. Maria J. Magpusao on "Maternal Health/Maternal Death; and Frederick Zamora on Excellence/Personality Development for Midwives.
Ms. Celia R. De Lemos gave the opening remarks while Ms. Virginia L. Agapin closed the program.
Ms. Celia R. De Lemos is now the president of PLGPMI, Aklan chapter. She is presently the administrative officer IV, Provincial Governor’s Office, Kalibo, Aklan. She teaches English, Expository Writing, Psychology, Personality Development and Career Pathing in Northwestern Visayan Colleges. Kalibo.
As a registered midwife, she taught Obstetrics, Nutrition and Family Planning at Saint Gabriel College, her alma mater, in Kalibo, Aklan. While teaching at St. Gabriel College, De Lemos also organized the 1st Aklan Midwifery Week Celebration that was 1st attended by students, IMAP officers and members.
De Lemos, as a Rotary Scholar of the Rotary Club of Kalibo West and LGU Kalibo, graduated with honors. She was awarded as one of the Outstanding Young Leaders. She was also a student Sangguniang Bayan member of Kalibo and Student Municipal Secretary during her student days.
At this stage, as the PLGPMI president, De Lemos is now busy preparing for the holding of the 3rd Midwifery Week Celebration scheduled in October 2006.
De Lemos is the very first president of PLGPMI. Other officers elected during the February 16, 2006 election are Virginia L. Agapin – 1st Vice President; Joyce I. Repil – 2nd Vice President; May R. Nacar – secretary; Estelita E. Cipriano – treasurer; and Annavic M. Magdael, auditor. The Board of Directors is composed of Jennifer Corminal and Rhodora Refol (Altavas), Emily C. Restar (Banga), Marqueza R. Dionisio (Batan), Sofia F. Lubigan (Buruanga), Charito Goboy and Rodelyn Sevilla (Ibajay), Virgelita G. Ronase and Elisa C. Fernandez (Kalibo), Josephine C.
