Gov. Carlito S. Marquez highlighted in his recent State of the Province Address the health performance of Aklan.
According to him, health is a high-priority concern of his administration. He thanked then Gov. Florencio T. Miraflores for the bold step taken to construct a P139 million with the LOGOFIND loan hospital building for the expansion and upgrading of Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital into second–level referral hospital now with 186 bed-capacity and modernized equipments.
Even if there were limited resources and the exodus of doctors and nurses abroad, the provincial government gradually expanded the health care delivery services by:
1. Employing 188 new health personnel, promoted 39 personnel and hired 141 new ones including doctors and radio technologists;
2. Implemented the electronic hospital management information system;
3. Contracted the services of a specialist to train personnel in CT Scan operation;
4. Initiated the Adopt-a-Ward program for private sector to adopt a ward and provide its needs;
5. Implemented Indigency Program that provided hospital discounts, free medicines and medical supplies;
6.Continued health care delivery services of the seven (7) other hospitals in Aklan; and
7. On health Poverty Alleviation Program, the Congressional District Office and the Provincial Government provided Php 10 million for the Philhealth Universal Coverage Program in coordination with Philhealth
The Aklan Provincial Local Health Board was awarded as the Most Outstanding Provincial Local Health Board by the Department of Health Center for Health Development in Region 6 in 2006 and 2007. /MP
