Aklan Media To Launch “KAPIHAN”

Aklan media practitioners will launch a regular weekly gathering dubbed as “Kapihan Sa Aklan” at the Kusina restaurant located at D. Maagma Street in Kalibo, Aklan on Sunday, March 23.

The “Kapihan Sa Aklan”, an initiative of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) and the Aklan Press Club, Inc. (APCI) in partnership with the Aklan Media Forum (AMF), is a round table public discussion of social, political, economic and cultural issues of immense significance to the people of Aklan and country.

A panel of discussants/reactors will be formed to add a measure of proactive and intellectual depth to the media forum.

An advisory council of the AMF that will provide policy direction, planning, and coordination of this development-oriented initiative is being organized.

Composing the AMF advisory council are Juan P. Dayang, PAPI president and chairman emeritus of the Aklan Press Club, chairman, and Dr. Ambrosio R. Villorente, co-chairman. Members are former congressman Allen Salas Quimpo, president, Northwestern Visayas College; Dr. Benny A. Palma, president, Aklan State University; Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, former Aklan Vice governor and president Aklan Press Club, Inc.

The President of the Aklan Ati-Atihan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the president of the Boracay Foundation are also invited to serve the AMF advisory council as members.

After the Kapihan launching, a seminar-workshop on “ethics and responsibilities” will be conducted to help professionalize the ranks of tri-media practitioners.

Groundbreaking of the proposed Aklan Press Club building will also take place on the same day. /MP
