Erap Revisits Aklan

To refresh the pleasant memories of the Aklanons, former President Joseph Ejercito "Erap" Estrada visited Aklan on Thursday, February 4. He is shown in the right photo proclaiming the candidacy of a local candidate in Aklan.

His entourage was composed of former senator Ernesto Maceda, and three senatorial candidates who are Atty. JB Bautista, former Cong. Jun Lozada of the second district of Negros Occidental, and Francisco "Kit" Tatad.

They arrived in Kalibo shortly before noon. Erap and party were warmly received by some Aklanons led by Mr. Joselito "Boy" Alba, a businessman of Aklan, local candidates under Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

Former Ibajay Mayor Roberto "Jun" Garcia and his loving wife Mabeth Mobo Garcia, Hon. Pedro Garcia, Victor Garcia, and local candidates for Mayor, Vice Mayor and Sangguniang Bayan members under PMP were also on hand to welcome Erap.

Upon their arrival in Kalibo from Iloilo, they held a motorcade around Poblacion, Kalibo and finally proceeded at Parkhomes II, Andagao, Kalibo where late lunch was served.

In Parkhomes, former senator Ernesto Maceda, started the program with his opening statement. The three senatorial candidates: Bautista, Lozada, and Tatad were given three minutes each to talk on their qualifications and legislative agenda as senatorial candidates.

Former president Erap was introduced by Mr. Joselito "Boy" Alba of JAVTES, Kalibo.

President Erap was eloquent in his speech. He spoke with candor. He thanked the Aklanons for giving him great majority in the May 1998 Presidential Election in Aklan. He recalled the assistance he provided Aklan during his two and one half years presidency. He denied strongly the allegations imputed to him that lead to the second EDSA revolution in 2001. He related the pressures put on him by the Arroyo administration to leave the country. Before he ended his speech, he vowed to continue the projects to make the Philippines economically equal with ASEAN countries. /MP
