PRC Aklan Holds Humanitarian Pandemic Preparedness Training


A humanitarian pandemic preparedness training sponsored by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Aklan Chapter was held at the Sampaguita Gardens, New Washington, Aklan on January 19-22, 2010.

Arcely P. Pelayo, Aklan Red Cross administrator reported that a total of 23 delegates attended the humanitarian prepared-ness training from the PRC provinces of Palawan, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, and Aklan.

The humanitarian pandemic preparedness initiative is a 3 year US Aid funded initiative according to Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, Aklan Red Cross chairman.

Tolentino said that the humanitarian pandemic preparedness initiative intends to support community-level planning on how to organize, to coordinate an effective humani-tarian response in the Philippines deemed to be vulnerable to an outbreak of pandemic influenza.
The humanitarian pandemic preparedness is designed to contribute to the national efforts at achieving an increase state of readiness in meeting the threats of pandemic of available capacities with a particular focus to improve prepared-ness in the community and household levels Tolentino added. /MP
