Making Aklan Cacao Center of Western Visayas

To make Aklan the cacao capital of Western Visayas, the cacao provincial summit was conducted. It was held at the Provincial Trade Hall, Capitol Grounds, Kalibo on Thursday, February 4.
It was sponsored by the Aklan Rivers Development Council (ARDC) under executive director Atty. Allen S. Quimpo.

Resource persons were Ms. Josephine Ramos of CoCoa Phil. Foundation; Mr. Peter Cruz of MARS CoCoa Development Center; and Ms. Charita Puentespina, a pioneer of CoCoa Industry.

They discussed the world situation in the production and consumption of cacao as well as that of the Philippines. They also discussed the cacao technology from planting, processing, distribution, and con-sumption. The Summit was participated by probable cacao planters from the 17 towns of Aklan. /MP
