Court Convicts German National

BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan, April 6 (PNA) – A German national was convicted for the gruesome killing of a Filipina in this resort island two years ago.

In his 13-page promulgation, Judge Virgilio Paman, Branch 7 of the Kalibo Regional Trial Court (RTC) Kalibo, Aklan found the 45-year-old Adolf Christian Winterrer guilty beyond reasonable doubt for rape with homicide of the 32-year-old victim Myleen Dela Rosa of Libacao, Aklan.

Judge Paman, in his decision, also ordered the detention of Winterrer at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Nalook, Kalibo.

Further, the convict was ordered to pay the family of the victim the sum of P125,000 for civil indemnity; P75,000 for moral damages; P100,000 for exemplary damage; and P76,380 for actual damages.

Witnesses positively identified Winterrer as the one who killed Dela Rosa, a massage therapist who was found lifeless in the morning of March 7, 2008 at the Puka Beach, Boracay, Malay, Aklan.

The court records also revealed that Winterrer was engaged in cybersex operation in this resort island.

It was not yet clear, however, if Winterrer’s legal team will file a motion for re-consideration on the decision.

Meanwhile, both the Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE-Kalibo) and the local government of Libacao have welcomed the decision.

"The verdict against Winterrer is a major victory in our advocacy to protect our women and children from abuses. May the said case be a warning to all those who take advantage of our women and children in the province," Franklin Quimpo, MOVE president, said. (PNA) /MP
