184 New 3rd Degree Knights Installed184 New 3rd Degree

Roxas City – Some 184 new third degree Knights of Columbus were exemplified by the Office of the Visayas State Jurisdiction headed by State Deputy Rodrigo N. Sorongon held at the Hall of Governors, Capiz Provincial Capitol, this city, February 19, 2012.

According to SK Elwin I. Corvera, K of C Provincial Deputy of Capiz, District Deputy Julius B. Abela and the Roxas City Council No. 3691 headed by Grand Knight Bienvenido P. Cortes played hosts to the activity. He said the third degree candidates came from the seven K of C Districts in the archdiocese of Capiz.

The Third Degree Exemplification Team headed by conferring officer Noel S.Nepomuceno came from Iloilo City. They were in Kalibo, Aklan in the morning where they also exemplified third degree Knights before coming to Roxas City.

According to SK Pepito O.Palomero, Master of the Fourth Degree, who came with the group, the 184 new third degree Knights are expected candidates for the Fourth Degree Knights whose exemplification is slated in March 2012. He said the new third degree Knights in Roxas City are the biggest group so far exemplified in the Visayas State Jurisdiction this year.

Roxas City Plaza Chess Assn. Elects Advincula Prexy

Roxas City – Gabriel “Gabby” A. Advincula, of this city is elected new president of the Roxas City Plaza Chess Association, Inc. recently. He replaced former president Manuel Cambe who first initiated the organization of this plaza chess group.

Others elected with Advincula are Ben Billones – vice president; Leopoldo Morcoso Jr. – secretary/appointed treasurer; JUN Mar Natanauan, auditor; Ramilo Villlanueva and Butchoy Acutillar, business managers; Joseph Silvias – press relations officer; Rene Distor and Wilfreddo Arrojado – peace/order officers.

The board of directors are Eddie Saludaga, chairman; Manuel Cambe, Winston Ramos, Walden Ruefa, Engr. Niel Panelo, Allan Tutica, Ruel Bergantino, Ike Acevedo and Ariel Andrade – members.

Roxas City Councilors Erwin Sicad and Matthew Viterbo; Jessie Dalisay and Bienvenido P. Cortes – board of advisers.

Advincula said the chess association is invited to participate in the 20l2 National Inter-Provincial Chess Championship to be held at the Cabagnot Training Center in Kalibo, Aklan in April 2012. A team of five (5) players, a head coach and team manager for the said tournament is already preparing to participate.

To help finance their participation in the said tournament, they are soliciting financial assistance from local officials and other chess enthusiasts. They also asked financial aid from Sen. Aquilino Koko Pimentel III with high hopes of bringing home the championship title to the City of Roxas and province of Capiz.

The Roxas City Plaza Chess Association, Inc. is registered with the Security and Exchange Com-mission and accredited NGO by the Sanggunian Panlungsod of Roxas City. It is also affiliated with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. ( BIENVENIDO P. CORTES) /MP
