Numancia Wins Top Prizes In Civil Registration Tilt

Erudite employees from the local registry office of Numancia won the top prizes in Individual and Team Categories during the civil registration quiz held on February 28, 2012 at National Statistics Office (NSO) Aklan Provincial Office, Kalibo.

Mrs. Arnalda Ballenas, head of the local civil registry office of Numancia, bagged the first prize in the Individual Category after besting 23 other contestants from the selected staffs of NSO and Local Civil Registry Office in Aklan.

Likewise, the Team Numancia, composed of Mrs. Ballenas and Ms. Venus Yetyet, was declared the over-all champion in the Team Category for garnering the highest total score earned by individual team members.

In the Individual Category, Mr. Wenefredo Cometa, Jr. Asst. Registration Officer of Madalag got second place, while the 3rd place went to Mr. Eliezer Sevilla, head of the local civil registry office of Ibajay.

In the team Category, the NSO Statistical Unit, composed of Monina Gomez and Sharlynne Kay Tagala, got the 2nd place, just as Team Buruanga, represented by Ma. Cecilia Maribao and Roselyn Casuncad took home the 3rd spot.

Winners in the Individual and Team Categories received a gold medal and trophy respectively.

According to Mr. Blas M. Solidum, Provincial Statistics Officer, the civil registration quiz aims to gauge the knowledge of personnel of NSO Aklan and LCRO as well on civil registration matters. It was also held to find out their weaknesses for improvement to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of civil registry system.

“It’s the first time that NSO – Aklan held this civil registration contest. We did not expect it would turn out to be such a huge success. We found it both entertaining and enlightening”, Solidum enthused.

NSO – Aklan spearheaded the civil registration quiz as part of this year’s celebration of Civil Registration Month.

Aklan Holds Biggest Mass Wedding

The first and the biggest ever mass wedding celebration was launched on February 27, 2012 in the Municipality of Ibajay held inside the Ibajay Sports Complex. It was a joint effort of the LGU Ibajay and the NSO Aklan Provincial Office.

Some 247 couples who came from different barangays of Ibajay exchanged “I do’s” during the civil wedding ceremony solemnized by Ibajay Mayor Ma. Lourdes Miraflores.

According to Mr. Eliezer Sevilla, head of the local civil registry office of Ibajay, the said mass wedding has given indigent unwed couples the opportunity to legalize their union as husbands and wives and subsequently their children.

Mr. Sevilla did not expect that the number of applicants would reach that number considering the limited time of preparation and notice given to the public.

However, there are still lots of unwed couples in Ibajay who want to avail of the ‘Libreng Kasae’. But due to time constraints, they were not able to signify their intention and submit the required documents on the deadline set for application”, Mr. Sevilla said.

According to Mr. Blas M. Solidum, Provincial Statistics Officer of NSO – Aklan, the event was unprecedented as no other municipality in the Province of Aklan has ever conducted a mass wedding with such huge number of couples.

Mr. Solidum commended the effort of Ibajay LGU officials, especially Mayor Ma. Lourdes Miraflores for the overwhelming support extended to the program.

Mayor Miraflores advised couples to become responsible parents to their children and remain faithful to their partners for better or for worst. She likewise stressed the importance of marriage as a foundation of family.

All the newly-wed couples received a souvenir photo and a cake. Special gifts were given to the oldest and youngest bride and groom courtesy of Mayor’s Office, Ibajay.
The mass wedding was one of the various activities NSO did in partnership with LGUs and stakeholders in observance of this year’s Civil Registration Month. /MP
