7th Aklan Piña & Fiber Festival Launched In Manila Fame

The 7th Aklan Piña & Fiber Festival was launched in Manila Fame recently at the World Trade Center, ITC Complex, Manila. Seven (7) loomweaving SMEs participated namely: Heritage Arts & Crafts, Reycon’s Piña Cloth Industry, Dela Cruz House of Piña, La Herminia Piña Weaving Industry, Silver Handicrafts, Uswag Arts & Crafts and Handicraft of Aklan Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
According to DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Ermilinda P. Pollentes, the objectives if this activity are the following:
1. To showcase Aklan’s loomwoven piña, abaca, raffia fabrics and crafts for maximum exposure at the Manila Fame;
2. To provide opportunity for the Fiber Festival organizers to promote and invite buyers to the annual Aklan Piña & Fiber Festival in April;
3. To introduce the quality seal for the loomwoven products of Aklan; and
4. To establish Aklan as the Piña capital and loomweaving destination of the country.
As a result, representative products of seven (7) SMEs were showcased and given exposure at the fair. Many local and foreign tourists signified intention of coming to Kalibo to witness said festival in April 2006. Japanese buyers led the list of foreign buyers who were interested to come. A significant number of Manila Fame exhibitors also signified interest to source materials from Aklan.
The said activity is a joint project of the Congressional District Office, Provincial Government of Aklan, Department of Trade and Industry-Aklan Provincial Office and Aklan Piña Manufacturers & Traders Association, Inc. /MP
