No Kickback From Fertilizer, Says Aklan Solon

By RECTO I. VIDAL
Rep. Florencio Miraflores of Aklan expressed surprise after his name was implicated in the fertilizer scam which dragged several political personalities not only in Region 6 as having reported to have received commissions from P3 billion agriculture fund.

"There's no truth to the allegations that I personally know or met Barredo who claimed that he was the one who personally delivered the commissions to some governors, mayors and congressmen in Western Visayas," Miraflores claimed.

"Secondly, the fertilizer project was not implemented, for the allocation for Aklan was delayed. So how could I ask for a commission from an unimplemented project?" he asked.

The Aklan solon said that, “said project was implemented by the DA on September 2004 several months after the 2004 elections.”

"How can I be able to touch the funds for it has not even passed my office? All I did was to identify the areas wherein the said project would be implemented," Miraflores clarified.

The Aklan solon confirmed Aklan received its share in said project from the controversial fertilizer fund but categorically denied he has ever received a 40-prcent commission as alleged by self proclaimed "fixer" Jose Barredo in a recent Senate inquiry. /MP
