2 Students Drown, Saves 1


In their quest for happiness, they got sorrows due to a tragedy that befalls them. A group of 60 first year students of Altavas National High School went to Beach Terrace Resort in Barangay Songcolan, Batan, Aklan to unwind after the hectic schedule in their studies. It was in the morning of Saturday, February 5.

Those 60 first year students also went to Beach Terrace Resort in Songcolan, Batan to celebrate their victory as champion in the recently concluded Altavas, Ati-Atihan Festival.

However, at about 11:00 o’clock in the morning, the Aklan Provincial Police Office received a call about the drowning incident in Batan.

Upon instruction from Police Director Cornelio Defensor, the Batan PNP immediately proceeded to the scene of the accident to provide assistance.

Upon arrival in the area in Songcolan, the police saw one victim of drowning named Blessa Idala y Peniano. They immediately brought her to the Altavas District Hospital, Altavas for medical treatment. However, 10 minutes after arrival and while the attending physician was working to revive her, the victim expired.

Another victim, Jessabel Marcelino y Llopar survived after the physician applied emergency measures reported PO2 Nida L. Gregas. Jessabel is now under medical treatment in the hospital.

After two hours of the drowning, another victim of the incident, Kevin Bolneo was found floating dead according to the report of Batan Chief of Police Reynante Jomocan.

According to some witnesses, the victims were carried away by strong waves while they were swimming in the seacoast of Songcolan. /MP
