Defensor Assumes Aklan Acting Police Director

The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) has a new acting police director in the person of Sr. Supt. Cornelio Defensor.

Defensor replaced APPO Provincial Director officer-in-charge Supt. Samuel Nacion who is currently the deputy provincial director for administration of Aklan provincial command.

Prior to his assignment, Defensor was the chief of the Regional Headquarters Support Group of the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) in Western Visayas. This position he assumed after his stint as the regional chief of Intelligence Division for three consecutive years.

He was the acting provincial director of Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), station commander of different municipal and city police stations in the city and province of Iloilo, group director of a provincial mobile group and once the district director in Iloilo City.

From superintendent Defensor was promoted to senior superintendent in April 2008.
The new acting police director assured his strong support to the programs and thrusts of the APPO and the provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Carlito S. Marquez.

On Wednesday’s command conference held at Camp Martelino’s Multi-Purpose Building, Defensor assured the chiefs of police, national support units and APPO personnel that the PNP in Aklan will vigorously intensify crime prevention efforts and strengthen the implementation of the Internal Reforms of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the province particularly in the campaign on "Bawal ang Pulis sa Sabungan", "No Helmet, No Plate and No Travel Policy".

He also directed the chiefs of police of Kalibo and Boracay police stations to give priority to cases of robbery especially in the premier tourist destination of Boracay island.

Defensor said that if tourists will be affected by the rampant "Akyat bahay" and thievery cases it will tarnish the image of Boracay. Boracay should be properly protected, he said.

The new acting APPO provincial director is planning to request additional police personnel for the island so that he could promptly impose proper deployment of personnel and ensure the peace and order in the island resort of Boracay.

Meanwhile, Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez enjoined the cooperation of all sectors to help the police maintain peace and order in Aklan. /MP
