Ochoa Enjoins Public To Support ‘Bayanihan ng Bayan’

Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. encouraged the government officials and employees to promote and participate in the “Bayanihan ng Bayan” project of the administration to help rebuild lives of typhoon victims in Mindanao.

Ochoa issued Memorandum Circular No. 26 enjoining all public servants to support the Bayanihan ng Bayan in Iligan City after Tropical Storm “Sendong” ravaged the area and Cagayan De Oro City, December last year.

“The event aims to illustrate the collective response and various ways the Filipinos can help victims of the typhoon,” Ochoa stated in the memorandum. “It also intends to gather commitments from all over the country to rebuild devastated areas in Northern Mindanao.”

President Benigno S. Aquino III on his visit to the relocation sites in Iligan City and Cagayan De Oro City, launched the shelter program for typhoon victims. The President also assured local government units of the national government’s support as they rehabilitate areas affected by Sendong.

Memorandum Circular No. 26, signed on January 25, specifically orders officials and employees of all departments, bureaus and agencies of the national government, as well as government-owned and -controlled corporations to support and take part in the Bayanihan ng Bayan.

Justice Carpio’s Alleged Makati Penthouse

Malacañang is not keen on investigating the penthouse unit in Makati City of Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, allegedly own. It said, the focus now is on the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. So all those who are trying to divert our attention to Justice Carpio, if they have any ground to file against him, then do so in the House of Representatives,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said at a press briefing. “Carpio can very well defend himself against the allegations.

“He is in a position to explain himself. Let him defend himself. Nobody is a sacred cow in the judiciary,” he said. Reports have it that Carpio owns an 800-sqm unit atop Avignon Tower on H.V. De la Costa Street in Makati’s upscale Salcedo Village.
“If anybody has proof of that, let them produce it. What we are concerned right now is the issue on the leadership of Chief Justice Corona. We have asked him to produce his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth,” Lacierda said. “We have asked him on account of the properties that he allegedly owns. We asked the Chief Justice respectfully to settle all issues on alleged hidden wealth, to produce his SALN,” he added. Carpio, on the other hand, released a summary of his SALN to Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership. Carpio’s net worth in 2010 was P47,269,928.

Lacierda expressed hope the Supreme Court would reverse itself and “decide to come out with their statements of assets, liabilities and net worth. It is not an unreasonable request in the light of transparency and accountability.” — GMA News /MP
