Tangalan Launches Coral Reef Restoration Pilot Project




The hanger type coral nursery unit, shown above, is made of PVC material with series of nylon ropes. This is fixed with plastic cable tied to maintain its position. 


Jawili Blue Starfish Resort in Jawili, Tangalan, Aklan served as the launching area of the pilot technology demonstration on coral reef restoation in Tangalan, Aklan. The launching was held on October 13, 2012. 


The coral reef restoration is a joint project of the Local Government Unit of Tangalan, University of San Carlos, Provincial Government of Aklan, DOST, DENR, BFAR, and Aklan State University. The launching was a whole day affair. In the morning, Dr. Filipina Sotto - Program Leader discussed the program overview and accomplishments. 


After the report, officials directly involved in the program signed their respective “Pledge of Commitment”.

They are Dir. Cesario R. Pagdilao - PCAARRD DOST, Fr. Dionisio M. Miranda, SVD - University of San Carlos, Dr. Danilo E. Abayon - Aklan State University, Vice Gov. Gabrielle V. Calizo-Quimpo - Aklan, Aklan Gov. Cartlito S. Marquez, Kasangga Partylist Rep. Teodorico T. Haresco, Jr. and Cong. Florencio T. Miraflores of Aklan.
