Akan Celebrates 114th Years of Independence

With the theme, “Kalayaan: Pananagutan Ng Bayan Para Sa Tuwid Na Daan”, LGU Kalibo commemorated the 114th Independence Day celebration with a Thanksgiving Mass held in Saint John The Baptist Cathedral, Poblacion, Kalibo in the morning of Tuesday, June 12.

A simple program followed after the holy mass. The Kalibo Pilot Elem. School Teachers Art Guild performed the “Pagdumdum Sa Historya It Kahilwayan It Pilipinas”. LGU Kalibo Municipal Employees Chorale sang the Pambansang Awit Ng Pilipinas with the raising of the Philippine flag. Fire Officer I Sharon T. Masula of BFP Kalibo led in the “Panunumpa Sa Watawat ng Pilipinas”.

The LGU Kalibo Municipal Employees Chorale sang the Aklan Hymn. This was followed by the Independence Day message of Hon. William S. Lachica, Mayor of Kalibo. The short Independence Day program of Kalibo ended with “Paghaead” by the Kalibo municipal officials and guests. Mr. Ron. N. Bautista was the emcee.

In Camp Pastor Martelino, the Aklan Police Provincial Office under Police Sr. Supt. Cornelio T. Defensor celebrated Independence Day with a simple program with Dr. Ambrosio R. Villorente as guest speaker.

The program started at exactly 7:30 on Tuesday morning, June 12 with the singing of the national anthem. This was followed by the invocation led by PO3 Michael Pontoy.

SPO1 Ritchie Ruiz led in the “Panunumpa Sa Watawat Ng Pilipinas” and then the Aklan Hymn. PS Supt. Cornelio T. Defensor, Aklan PNP director welcomed the police officers present and visitors.

Police Supt. John Trio, Aklan Deputy Provincial director for operations, introduced the guest of honor, Dr. Ambrosio R. Villorente who in his prepared speech endeavored to explain the meaning of the celebration and its theme. 

Villorente pointed out that Independence means freedom, freedom to behave right, freedom to go straight, and freedom to do desirable action. Freedom to be loving and loyal to the Pilipinos and to the Philippines.

Villorente enumerated some few simple examples how to love and to be loyal to the country and people. And these actions are easily done by a loving and loyal Pilipino to his country, he stressed.

The program ended with the community singing of the PNP Hymn. /MP
