VP Binay Forgives Roxas City Mayor

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay said he has forgiven Roxas City Mayor Allan Celino who had refused to allow the posting of welcome streamers in his city and reportedly warned market vendors not to mingle with the Vice President.

“It is unfortunate pero lahat ng tao may character. Meron naman tayo dapat courtesy in government,” Binay told local media.

Despite Celino’s actions, the Vice President received a warm welcome in Roxas City Friday last week with an estimated 3,000 students, civil society members, barangay leaders joining Binay for his regular morning walk.

Binay said the mayor should have set aside politics during his visit.

Binay said he had wanted to discuss with the Mayor housing projects for government employees, as well as mass housing for the city’s poor, but he never had the opportunity.

The Vice President vowed to return to Capiz, after visiting Panit-an, Mambusao, Dao and Dumarao towns and holding dialogs local government officials, senior citizens and non-government organizations.

“I have that responsibility. I was elected to serve the people, I have the support of the administration. Especially para magkaroon tayo ng mabuting pamamahala,” he said.

He said he had some shelter projects lined up for the province, adding that because of his experience as Mayor of Makati for more than 20 years, he has actively involved local govern-ment units (LGUs) in the national govern-ment’s in the housing projects.

“Among others, iyong aking project na matulungan ang mga senior citizens to have their own senior citizens’ center.

Binay allocated P150 million of his 2011 PDAF for the construction and repair of 300 senior citizens centers nationwide. /MP
