Reason and Concern

By Ronquillo C. Tolentino

The Impeachment Court Decision

The judgment of the Impeachment Court in the conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona now forms part of Philippine history and jurisprudence.

Watching and observing the senator-judges since the inception of the impeachment proceedings, I would say candidly that the senators voted according to what they saw and conceived lawful, true and what their respective consciences dictated. It was crucial for each of the senators to render their individual votes delivered orally in the Senate hall serving as the court venue. Of course, the senator-judges had respectively listened to and observed the presentation of evidence and debates between the defense and prosecution panels.

Liberal Party Oath Taking

Too suddenly, there is a nationwide swearing of new Liberal Party officers. In Aklan immediately after the 56th Aklan anniversary morning commemorative program at the Aklan ABL sports complex came the swearing at the Aklan Tourism and Training Center of Liberal Party members led by Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez and other provincial and municipal elected officials. Teeming with crowd of Aklan political leaders, the Liberal Party were sworn in by Senator Franklin Drilon. Close to two weeks later, President Aquino also came to Talisay City to swear in Liberal Party leaders. /MP
