Akeanon Campus Journalism Writeshop

The Provincial Govern-ment of Aklan and the Congressional District Office of Aklan in coordination with the Department of Education will hold Aklan Journalism Writeshop in Kalibo, Aklan on February 1-2, 2008 announced Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, former Vice Governor of Aklan.

Rationale:

For a long time, the development and enhancement of the capacities of Akeanon youths as manifested by projects assisted by the local government was focused on sports development programs. Limited efforts were geared towards training and enrichment of other proficiency besides leadership such as journalism and communication skills.
Aklanons excel in various fields including journalism. The annals of Aklanon writers are repleted with journalists who rose from community-based and campus/school papers to careers in the various fields of mass communication. But much can be done to improve the stock of budding writers all over Aklan. Of late, the credibility of the broadcast media has been tainted by a number of practitioners who deliberately set aside ethics and good taste. These broadcasters/writers sensationalize issues without working for a truly balanced presentation and giving due process for people concerned. Driven by personal interests and bribes, they abuse media autonomy to assassinate characters.
To ensure that the future of Aklan print and broadcast media practitioners will evolve into a truly respected and noble fourth estate, the Provincial Government of Aklan together with the Congressional District Office in partnership with the Department of Education will spearhead a two-day Akeanon Campus Journalism Writeshop on February 1–2, 2008 at designated workshops venues in Kalibo, Aklan. Four hundred (400) young campus journalists coming from elementary, secondary and tertiary levels will gather in Kalibo for the event. A first of its kind, Congressman Florencio T. Miraflores and Governor Carlito S. Marquez envision this event as a breakthrough in providing the fundamentals to budding writers especially in instilling responsible and ethical journalism.
The major sponsor are keen on harnessing the potentials of budding Aklanon writers/broadcasters who shall be equipped with journalistic skills and shall undergo emersion on ethics and value formation through sustainable activities. Thus, the Akeanon Campus Journalism Writeshop is deemed essential.

Objectives:

After the workshop, participants shall have:

1. gained an overview of the print and broadcast communications;
2. identified the role of campus writers in the community information systems;
3. possessed basic skills in writing/broadcasting; and
4. understood the ethics and norms in media communications.
The Program aims to:
1. organize Aklanon campus writers from elementary to college;
2. sustain opportunities for capability building and value formation of Aklanon campus writers; and
3. provide a venue to gather former students editors and writers towards responsible journalism.

Hello,

This activity is very laudable. I commend the proponents.

Reading through the news, I clearly notice the lack of separate topic about blogs, how to do it, writing style, earning from it.

It may be good to know that one blog writer has earned more than 1 Million USD, yes US Dollars, in one year just writing blogs.

In the Philippines, I know of some people who earn a living writing blogs and getting paid in US Dollars.

If the organizers see it fit, I am willing to lend a hand to incorporate blogging in the course.
