The Department of Agriculture is in a process of provincial and regional consultations among the stakeholders in agriculture and fisheries and its allied services. The consultation is geared to solicit project ideas, issues and concerns needed for consideration in the preparation of the 2009 budget.
The consultation for Aklan was held in Bayswater, New Buswang, Thursday, February 7. The Regional Consultation for Region VI was held on Monday, February 4 at Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City. The consultation in Iloilo City generated program and policy recommendations believed to enhance agriculture and fishery growth that will reduce poverty and mitigate hunger.
The Visayas–wide consultation is scheduled on March 5, 2008 in Cebu City.
As soon as the consultations are completed, a national summit will be held in Manila sometime in the last week of March where the results of the regional consultations will serve as in-puts.
These consultations are in line with the MalacaƱang directive to conduct area-wide consultations with stakeholders in fisheries, agriculture and its alliances. /MP
