Madalag Receives P2.9 M Shelter Assistance


Mayor Rex Gubatina of Madalag received bank checks worth P2.9 million from GMA Fund Assistance and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Jan. 14.

The money is intended for the 290 victims of the June 21, 2008 of Typhoon Frank.

DSWD Regional Director Teresita Rosales of Region VI, Iloilo City turned over the check to Aklan Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Elma S. Malbas who then turned it over to Mayor Gubatina.

According to Director Rosales in her message, the money is intended for the purchase of materials in the repair of the houses of typhoon victims at P10,000 each family with labor as family counterpart. Mayor Gubatina has effected the preparation of checks at P10,000 each for distri-bution to typhoon victims, according to Mr. Nelson N. Neon, Information Officer of Madalag.

On the other hand, distribution of rice under the initiative of Mayor Gubatina, highlighted the launching of the Food For School Program in Madalag. Mr. Julian Ledesma, Social Welfare Officer, Erna Young of NFA Aklan, Annie P. Sioco, DSWD Madalag, Fr. Arnaldo U. Crisostomo, parish priest, municipal officials and employees graced the launching.

Some 823 pupils from 34 day care centers from barangays of Madalag are benefiting from the program. Each child received one kilogram per day or 33 kilograms for 33 days. /MP
