Abandoned DepEd Lot
The EF column of April 11 – 17 in MP on "Abandoned DepEd Lot In Numancia" received a comment from Vice Governor Gabrielle V. Calizo-Quimpo.

According to her, the P2 million already spent for concrete posts of a building on a lot in Poblacion, Numancia for the use of DepEd Division Office came from the then Congresswoman Billie V. Calizo – Quimpo. It came from the congressional fund for the Lone District of Aklan.

"There was a building plan for that proposed division office in Numancia. The cons-truction stopped after the death of the late Dr. Juada", the Vice Governor revealed. According to Vice Governor Quimpo, the building plan maybe still available in DPWH, Kalibo.

Asked if she will help to continue the construction, Vice Governor Quimpo answered in the positive. Also, the former Numancia Mayor Ernesto I. Templonuevo is interested that the DepEd division office will relocate itself to Numancia.

Trichoderma Laboratory In Kalibo

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Aklan launched its Trichoderma Laboratory situated in the Provincial Nursery, Nalook, Kalibo. The launching was held on Saturday morning, April 24.

Trichoderma is fungus activator that when applied to agricultural waste will hasten its decomposition. Trichoderma is very useful to the manufacture of organic fertilizer and to improve soil fertility.

No less than Director Silveno Q. Tejada of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, and DA Regional Director Larry P. Nacionales graced the launching.

The presence and immediate availability of trichoderma in Aklan will minimize if not totally stop the burning of farm waste like rice straw, William Castillo, provincial agriculturist hopes. It will also save farmers from buying commercial fertilizers as well as promote organic farming in Aklan.

Price Increase

Notice that gasoline companies just announce its price changes either the increase amount or the decrease amount. They never state the cost per liter per kind. Gasoline prices are known only in gas stations.

Notice also that the price reduction is never higher than the price increase. For example gas companies will announce a P0.50 price reduction, but they will increase their prices in 10 days or two weeks double the amount reduced previously so that today, the prices of gasoline range from P50 – P60 per liter. It is like stepping two steps forward and just one step backward.

Moreover, the price difference between Metro Manila and the provinces like Aklan is P7.00 to P8.00 per liter. Can the gasoline companies institute uniform pricing in all parts of the Philippines? Why gasoline price in Metro Manila is much cheaper than in the provinces?

Sports As Economic Indicator

The performance of the Aklanon Athletes in the WVRAA meet and in the "Palarong Pambansa" is highly commendable. This is to the credit of the children, DepEd Aklan, trainers, coaches, the community leaders, and the parents. They are our noble heroes in the field of sports.

Their exemplary performance in sports is a reliable indicator of the economic improvement of the Province of Aklan. Almost all the countries which excelled in the Olympic games have improved their economy. Those countries which are performing creditably in international sports competitions have improved their economic levels.

Japan, South Korea, and the Peoples Republic of China in Asia with outstanding performances in sports competitions and hosts to Olympic games had advanced their economics. /MP
