DILG Signs Agreement With Balete & Anilao

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday signed an agreement with the municipalities of Anilao, Iloilo and Balete, Aklan, both recipients of the agency’s "Seal of Good Housekeeping" award.

Information Officer Ann Genevieve Castillo said the agreement details the plans and programs the two local government units (LGUs) would like to implement using their Performance Challenge Fund.

The signing was held at the DILG regional office Iloilo City between regional director Evelyn Trompeta and Mayors Ma. Theresa F. Debuque and Teodoro V. Calizo, Jr. of Anilao and Balete, respectively.

Anilao was cited for its excellent planning and valuing performance information. It obtained a score of 4.5 for sound fiscal management and 4.375 for transparency and accountability.

On the other hand, the town of Balete made an excellent mark on good planning and valuing performance information and obtained a score of 4.0 for sound fiscal management and 4.75 for transparency and accountability.

Anilao and Balete are two of the 15 LGUs all over the Philippines that were given the "Seal of Good Housekeeping" award. Each is entitled to a P1-million fund to spend for their selected programs.

The award was conceptualized "to aggressively scale up interventions to elevate the practice of governance that values transparency, accountability, participation and performance into an institutionalized status."

Winners are chosen based on their good performance on planning, fiscal management, trans-parency and accountability and valuing of performance information.

The ceremonial turnover of the P1-million fund for each of the two LGUs will be held on December 1, with Secretary Jessie Robredo gracing the ceremony, according to Castillo. by Perla G. Lena (PNA)/MP
