Donated Blood Is Positive of HIV-AIDS

The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Kalibo has found two packs of donated blood in their office to be positive of the HIV-AIDS.

Aracely Pelayo, PNCR-Kalibo chief, said that the donated blood apparently came from Aklan residents.

The PNRC have escalated its blood donor campaign in the province to augment the needed blood supply especially for blood victims.

Earlier, the Department of Health has reported that Aklan has registered 18 HIV-AIDS cases.

Due to the confidentiality of the identity of the HIV-AIDS victims, it is not clear now whether the blood donors are in the DoH lists of persons who are positive of the dreaded disease.

"We already have deferred using the blood and we forwarded it to the PNRC regional office. The PNRC region will then forward the blood to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for further study," said Pelayo.

The PNRC had already called the attention of the two male blood donors who were suspected of being positive of the HIV-AIDS, but only one of them has responded.

Because of this discovery, the PNRC-Aklan vowed to be more vigilant in ensuring that blood donors are free from HIV-AIDS or any sexually transmitted disease. (PNA) /MP
