Dinagyang Festival’s ‘Dagoy’ Dolls To Undergo Wardrobe Overhaul

The City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) will seek creative and artistic minds in the wardrobe overhaul of the thousands of miniature "Dagoy", the official mascot of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival.

CTDO chief Benito Jimena said that they would hold a series of dressing up Dagoy dolls contests in the first week of January as part of the 2011 Dinagyang Festival celebration.

Every week within the three-week period they will choose the top five best-dressed dolls. The best dressed will be chosen from among the 15 weekly winners to be awarded during the closing ceremony of the Dinagyang Festival on January 23. The dressing-up Dagoy dolls is only a one-day activity.

The almost a month contest is conceived to really highlight Dagoy, who is now the number one endorser of the country’s best festival.

The original Dagoy, a three-dimension mascot, stands six feet nine inches tall.

In 2008 the Precious Moments came up with some 2,000 miniatures of Dagoy to further promote the city’s annual Dinagyang Festival.

Since its inception some 3,000 Dagoy dolls were already sold, Jimena said. (PNA) /MP
