International Day of Peace Supported By SMART

Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace. The International Day of Peace was established by a United Nations (UN) resolution in 1981 and provides an opportunity for individuals, communities and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.
In response to a request from the UN’s Manila Office, SMART sent out a peace message to its subscribers, encouraging them to pause for a minute of silence for a conflict-free world. SMART subscribers received the UN message of peace—over 50 percent of which were Mindanao-based recipients. The message was free of charge.
SMART now joins the ranks of organizations and individuals in all parts of the world who commemorate and celebrate Peace Day. This effort also complements existing SMART support for UN initiatives which includes the collection of donations to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) via Smart Money.
Now on its 26th year, the International Peace Day has drawn millions of participants around the world who participate in all kinds of peace-keeping events, large and small. /MP
