It all started thru shoptalk and conversations to bring back the vitality of commerce in Kalibo after the devastation of Typhoon Frank. It bloomed into a full blown concept where people can drop by the Kalibo Magsaysay Park starting October 30-31 and November 2-3, this year from 5:00 PM to 12:00 midnight. People may shop around for almost anything from fast food to raw fish and meat, and trinkets and gift items for ladies to garments as they listen to acoustic music.
Stalls selling fruits, flowers, crafts, souvenir items, meat, seafood, foot wares, house wares, vegetables, preserved food, baked goods and pastries, and stalls serving as extensions of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and fast food in Kalibo will be seen in this night market dubbed as "Kalibohian sa Gabii" (Livelihood at Night).
SB Member and Tourism Chair, Hon. Lillian Tirol, is confident and enthusiastic that the Kalibohian sa Gabii or the Kalibo Night Market will become an institution by itself like the Kaean-an sa Kalye (Food Festival in the Streets) during the month of June.
Mayor Raymar Rebaldo expressed his support of the night market stating that it will be one way to bring back the confidence of investors and business owners and give the people of Kalibo a little distraction from the stigma of the devastation of Typhoon Frank while at the same time give them a chance to enjoy themselves after work.
Meanwhile SB member and agriculture chair, Soviet Dela Cruz, assures the public that the prices in the night market will be cheapest. The shop owners are instructed to put price tags for the convenience of shoppers and in accordance with the Price Tag Law. /MP
