The month of September is New Generation Month in the world of Rotary. Previously, it is known as Youth Activities Month.
To give significant to the celebration, the Rotary Club of Kalibo held the YOUTH CONGRESS 2008 with the theme: "TOMORROW’S LEADER" on September 27, 2008 at STI College, Capitol Site, Kalibo, Aklan. Some 136 student leaders from all over Aklan province actively participated during the celebration. They brought home with them some prizes and surprises. The interact clubs of Aklan National High School for Arts and Trades, Regional Science High School – Region 6, Dela Cruz Institute of Business and Industry, and New Washington Comprehensive High School spearheaded the celebration in cooperation with Aklan Press Club, Kalantiao Toastmasters Club, STI College-Kalibo, Lifeline Inter-nationale, RGMA – DYRU and Kalibo Cable Television, Inc.
The Youth Congress aimed to develop leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrate helpfulness and respect for others, understand the value of individual responsibility and hard work, and advance understanding and goodwill. Different interesting topics were prepared and presented by the organizing committee headed by Rtn. Marienne "Yen-Yen" Ibadlit and her members: Rtn. Joanna Tay, Rtn. Winnie Barsanas and Rtn. Niflem "Kato" Meren.
The program started in the morning with a prayer led by PP Epifanio "Panski" Rebuelta, Philippine National Anthem by PP Roberto "Berting" Nakaya. The program was formally opened by RC Kalibo club president Melrose "Megs" Lunn. The organizing committee have chosen topics to give emphasis to the New Generations Month celebration. Ramona "Mona" Magayanes moderated the afternoon open forum. The program Toastmaster of the Day was Rtn. Fernando "Boy" Bermejo.
Many Rotary projects support the fundamental needs of the New Generations, like health, human values, education and self-development. The structured programs of Rotary International for the New Generations are Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Youth Exchange. This year, the Rotary Club of Kalibo celebrated the New Generation Month with Interactors, and whom we know we can call Tomorrow’s Leaders.
One important highlight of the event is the contest on the translation of The 4-Way Test to Aklanon won by Hanskee M. Roqious of New Washington National Comprehensive High School.
