Aklan Is Investors’ Haven*

* Welcome address of Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, Vice Governor, Province of Aklan, on the opening ceremonies of the Aklan Media Summit sponsored by the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) with the support of the provincial government of Aklan, held in Gov. Corazon L. Cabagnot Memorial Training and Tourism Center, Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan, October 26, 2006.

All of us are aware that the media have never relinquished or abandoned their role as independent watchdog. We are likewise cognizant of the fact that the media have not surrendered their primary task as instruments of political, social and economic progress. Media continue to form attitudes, establish values and nurture receptivity to change. The media have continuously reported and commented perceptively on the issues of growth, renewal and reform.
The Aklan Media Summit spotlights investments opportunities in the province of Aklan through the media. This gathering of media practitioners and communicators from all over the Philippines highlights the potent role of the media in promoting investments for the province’s varied opportunities for economic growth.
Indeed, Aklan has plenty to offer the would-be investors as one of the prime tourists destinations of the country due to its Boracay island and Ati-Atihan festival and an eco tourism zone.
The Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) envisioned Aklan Media Summit under the leadership of our very own Johnny Dayang and with the support of the provincial government of Aklan under the progressive administration of Governor Carlito Samson Marquez. Through your participation as leaders of the media in the different regions of our country would have positive impact in projecting Aklan not only as an international tourist destination but as investors’ haven as well.
