APAC Promotes HIV/AIDS Awareness

The provincial government will organize meaningful activities in line with the global celebration of World AIDS Day on December 1.
The celebration bears the theme, "Stop AIDS, Keep the Promise: You, Me, Us, Seeking Accountability From Societies and Communities."
Joselito Edwin Ramos of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) confirmed that activities started on November 15 which are geared towards building momentum for the grand celebration on World AIDS Day.
One of the activities is a campaign on the prevention education of HIV and AIDS in the workplace to be conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with technical assistance from the Butterfly Brigade.
There will also be Radio Trivia Contests on HIV and AIDS to be facilitated by PIA-Aklan. Free HIV Testing for target groups, red ribbon folding and distribution of red ribbons to workplaces and schools will be facilitated by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Aklan Provincial Office.
The Aklan Provincial AIDS Council (APAC) is continuing to raise awareness on the issues of HIV and AIDS.
APAC Secretariat Head Debbie F. Villaflor said believing that prevention is our best strategy to combat this epidemic, the council is soliciting the pro-active support of the various sectors in realizing a comprehensive approach to educating our fellow Aklanons to arrest the spread of the virus," she further said.
"We need to implement programs needed to meet our global goal to halt and reverse the spread of HIV by 2015. This is part of an arrest effort to contribute towards meeting Millennium Development Goals (MDG) thru HIV Programming," she added. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
