Cecilia R. De Lemos is elected Regional President of the Philippine League of Government and Private Midwives, Inc. (PLGPMI) for Western Visayas during its Regional Convention and Scientific meeting held recently at Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Iloilo City. PLGPMI National President Cecilia Banca Santos announced the result of the election.
Santos, who is also the Consultant for Health Concerns of DILG and former Secretary of DOH. Said PLGPMI is the largest documented body of professional midwives in the country and associate member of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP). The said convention was attended by midwives from Iloilo, Negros, Antique, Capiz and Aklan.
In line with the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), the convention focused on Goal 4 and Goal 5, which call for the Reduction of Infant and Child Mortality and Improvement of Maternal Care.
De Lemos was elected regional president in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the implementation of programs and projects in the province of Aklan.
A dynamic organizer, she organized the 1st Midwifery Week Celebration in Aklan, it being her brainchild. Launched in early 1980’s, the 1st celebration was held in October 2006. She also launched the PLGPMI Akean Newsletter, the first and only publication of midwives in Aklan.
De Lemos presently holds the position of Administrative Officer IV, Office of the Governor, Aklan. She is a part-time instructor at the Northwestern Visayan Colleges where De Lemos, for many years, enjoyed doing interesting jobs like secretary to the Dean/President, librarian, college instructor, and public relations coordinator. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
