Service personnel of the Kalibo International Airport are now attending a one-month Basic Mandarin Language course which opened Monday, August 4, 2008.
This foreign language course is aimed to complement the tourism program of the provincial government of Aklan especially in the municipality of Kalibo. The airport has been accommodating international flights of Mandarin Airlines direct from the Taipei Airport in Taiwan. The course is given free of any charge to those now attending classes.
Students from Kainan University (Taiwan) are handling the training who are April Joy de Juan, Rodelyn Lachica, and Ma. Lourdes Victoriano. They are former MassCom students of Northwestern Visayan Colleges (NVC). After their second year at NVC, they qualified for a four-year scholarship grant in Taiwan under Kainan University’s International Honors Program.
While these Kainan scholars are presently in the province (Aklan) to spend their academic break, they volunteered to share their skill in basic Mandarin language by teaching the service personnel of Kalibo International Airport.
This Basic Mandarin Language course is a joint project of NVC Center for International Human Resource Development (CIHRD), Governor Carlito S. Marquez, Congressman Florencio Miraflores, and Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo in cooperation with Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and Kalibo International Airport Manager, Engineer Percy Malonesio. /MP
