The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will provide 250 units of houses to the victims of Typhoon Frank. Ms. Arcely Pelayo announced last week during the board meeting of the PNRC, Aklan chapter. According to Ms. Pelayo, 125 units will be for Kalibo and the 125 units will be for Numancia.
Materials for construction are imported except for the walling and others easily available locally.
The recipients will provide the labor in the construction. They will be provided with carpentry tools for the construction as a component of the house. In addition to being a typhoon victim, he must also be:
1. permanent resident of the barangay for one year; 2. owner of the lot where the house will be constructed; 3. has not received any shelter assistance from any NGO or the government; 4. must be a family composed of parent and children; 5. sign a contract that construction is completed in 30 days; d 6. the new house is located in safe area away from deep floods, landslides and other natural dangers.
PNRC Aklan Relief Assistance
Meanwhile, Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, chairman, PNRC Aklan reported that PNRC Aklan has provided relief assistance to some 8,514 families and 44,227 persons as of July 31. This relief assistance consisted of food items for 7,109 families; non-food items for 1,820 families; hygiene kit – 734 families and temporary shelter – 471 families.
According to Mary Joe B. Galeon of the PNRC Aklan, the food items or food pack consisted of 6 tin cans sardines, 6 packs noodles, 5 kilos rice and mineral water.
The Hygiene Kit consisted of 2 rolls toilet paper, toothpaste, shaver, comb, 2 bottles shampoo, one pack sanitary napkins and one box powder soap.
The non-food pack consisted of Geri containers collapsible, and used clothing. The temporary shelter was tarpaulin plastic sheet.
These materials distributed came from PNRC Capiz Chapter, United States Agency for International Development, PNRC National Headquarters, SMART, Provincial Government of Aklan, GAVER, Holy Trinity Prayer Group of Australia. NVC allowed the use of rooms as operation center, MMDA allowed the used of Boom truck. Some kind individuals provided vehicles for relief operation like Boracay Tropics, Gie Recoter, Regner Pelayo, John Rey Tordecillas, Manuel Jizmundo, Frits Onayan and Robelyn Delos Reyes.
PAL Foundation donated 10 bags used clothing and 2 boxes used pillow cases. /MP
