"A malnourished pupil is weak and sickly resulting to frequent absences and lack of interest in the class". This is one of the conclusions Dr. Dobie P. Parohinog made on his study to help "School Managers Improve the Academic Performance of Pupils In Class".
Dr. Parohinog is presently the principal of Bulwang Elementary School (BES), Bulwang, Numancia. He conducted the study in Bulwang Elementary School during the school year 2007 – 2008.
According to Parohinog, his study revealed that a malnourish child is weak and sickly, scores low in class evaluation and slow learner and deviant child.
As a result of the various nutritional activities done in June 2007 to January 2008 in Bulwang Elementary School, nutrition level among pupils increased. The improved nutritional level also improves pupil academic performance. According to Parohinog, 30.52 percent of BES pupils were malnourish. Due to activities on nutrition, malnourish children decreased to only 10.36 percent on January 2008 in BES.
Parohinog recommends to school administrators to familiarize themselves with the nutrition status of their pupils in the first month of classes so that relevant information gathered can be the basis of the nutritional activities of the school.(By Dr. DOBIE PAROHINOG)/MP
