Aklan Golds In WVRAA Meet 2010


Valeriano, Andrade Lead Amazing Aklan

Most awarded gold medalists Ma. Jessa Valeriano and Alyssa Marie Andrade share the limelight among Region VI athletes at the close of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2010 held on March 14 to 18 at the newly reconstructed Aklan Sports Complex in Calangcang, Makato, Aklan.

Secondary girl runner Valeriano, the pride of Western Visayas Academy, Nabas rushed four gold medals in 800m at 2:22.55, 1 500m with 4:56.37, 3 000m for 10:53.75 and completed 4x400 relay in 4:18.20.

"Athlete No. 264 is such a superb runner and with good condition," commented by a spectator to Valeriano.

For elementary girls’ athletics, Andrade of Dumaguit Elementary School, New Washington swept three gold medals in long jump at 5.02m, posted 10.92m for triple jump and 13.13sec in 100m run.

Other gold medalists in athletics are runner Mary Cris Tabiolo of Ochando ES, New Washington marked 27.06sec in 200m; javelin thrower Jerremay Rubias from Tangalan ES, Tangalan; and Janine Paroginog of Bag-ang Magpag-ong National High School, Batan untouched the bar at 1.40m high jump.

Team Aklan Arnis athletes grabbed the overall champion dominating both Anyo and Full Contact competitions with 15 points.

Rainier Paolo Vallijo of Regional Science High School (RSHS), Old Buswang, Kalibo kept four gold medals in solo baston individual and group category, double baston group anyo events and full contact in bantamweight (over 47k-51k).

Vendelle Magdael of RSHS ruled pinweight (over 43k-47k) division and solo/double baston group anyo events.

Jeremiah Estrada of RSHS staged in featherweight (over 51k-55k) division and solo/double baston group anyo category.

Joe Mark Antonio from Gaudencio A. Vega NHS, Nalook, Kalibo took flyweight (43k and below) division.

In boxing, Aklan still reigned bagging overall title. Aklan’s favorite Macky Delfin made a back-to-back gold medal. Delfin, a pride of Ibajay Academy, went home with golds last year WVRAA and 2009 Palaro.

Noriel Pellio, of Solido NHS, Nabas also made a back-to-back and a silver medalist in 2009 palaro. Another Nabasnon, Raymund Salmingo, from Union NHS boxed in 39kg.

The undefeated volleyball elementary boys clinched championship title with impressive 4-0 streak. Team Aklan Valley players are Mike Louiz Rondael, the Team Captain, Raenmon Josef Panlilio, R B Solanoy, Ramon Hei Solidum, and Raeven Zomil all from Nabas ES; Jovencio Nalayog and Reynel Jude Niñofranco of Madalag ES; Edison Dalida from Batan ES; Junejay Sucgang of Caiyang ES; Niño Reo Lanciso from Libacao ES; Ace Jefre Saludo of Caticlan ES; and Mark Ryan Parcon from Kalibo ES.

"…truly amazing Aklan…I’m very happy with the results", said Dr. Victorina S. Laroza, DepEd Aklan Schools Division Superintendent, in a radio interview.

Collectively, the outstanding performance of athletes both in elementary (172.5 points) and secondary (171.5 points) sealed Aklan on third rank (344 points) in over-all standing of WVRAA Meet 2010.

Individual gold medalists’ events are automatic qualifiers to compete for the Palarong Pambansa 2010 to be held in Tarlac Province on April 11-17. Selection process is now taking place for the team events. /MP
