Aklan Separation Celebration


After the WRAA meet, the Province of Aklan is facing again another big event, the 54th Aklan Anniversary Celebration, the separation from Capiz province.

The officials respon-sible for the various activities in the celebration has calendared the event for the period April 5 – 30. This, however, is the Inter Municipalities Basketball Tournament.

For the period April 12 – 17, basketball shootout at ABL Sports Complex will be held. There will also be played Bowling, Badminton, Dart, Table Tennis, and Volleyball.

These games when played according to the respective rules will promote physical fitness, teamwork, camaraderie and understanding. It will improve personnel morale.
There will be a Regional Agri-fair on April 21 – 27. Among which are the 11th PiƱa and Fiber Festival, Aklan Horticultural Society, "Tsibugan Sa Kapitolyo", and free Anti – Rabies vaccination.

There will be a motorcade and opening program in the afternoon at the ABL Sports Complex. The night of April 21 is DepEd Night which will feature folk singing and live band.

On April 22, Wave Breaker will be launched in Mabilo, Kalibo. This is under the leadership of the office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Aklan Environment Officer.
Wave Breaker appears like a Jack Stone made of steel bars, sand and cement. It can prevent sea waves, and minimizes soil erosion if not stop among others benefits. There is concert at the park and dog show.

A Memorandum of Agreement in Barangay Baybay, Makato will take place on "Lambaklad", then launching of it in the afternoon.

April 24 will be a busy day as Tricoderma Laboratory will be launched in Nalook, Kalibo in the morning. After lunch, cooking demonstration at Goding Ramos Park, will take place sponsored by Culinary Center and San Miguel Corporation Products. There is Pla Pla Cooking Contest followed by the Revival Night with live band.

On April 25, Aklan Day, there will be a thanksgiving mass at St. John The Baptist Cathedral. The holy mass over, civic and military parade follows from Pastrana Park, Poblacion, Kalibo to Goding Ramos Park, Capitol, Kalibo. After the parade, flag raising ceremonies follows and then the Commemorative Program at ABL Sports Complex.

In the evening, the Outstanding Aklanons 2010 will be honored in a program. Their selection is on going.

The Aklan anniversary celebration 2010 continues up to April 27. On Monday, April 26, there will be Fiber Forum to be hosted by Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) and Fiesta Bonanza, Palocebo, Pig Catching, and Bingo sponsored by Bmeg.
April 27 is Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Day. There will be mass graduation of farmers, awarding of winners in vegetable productivity contest, best LGU Booth and Fair and many other activities.

Indeed, going over the activities of the 54th Aklan Anniversary celebration, more activities are designed for the farmers and fishermen. May this will serve as the beginning of giving attention to the most depressed and oppressed group of peoples of the Philippine society. /MP
