Kalibo Celebrates 113th Martyrs Day

Congresswoman Cynthia Villar of the lone district of Las Piñas City graced the 113th commemoration of the XIX Martyrs of Aklan. She was introduced by Kalibo Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo as guest of honor and speaker.

The commemorative program which lasted until noon of Tuesday, March 23 was held at the Aklan Freedom Shrine, the common grave of the XIX martyrs in D. Maagma Street, Poblacion, Kalibo.

Before the program, a civic military parade was held following the Holy Mass celebrated at St. John the Baptist Cathedral, Poblacion, Kalibo. The parade was one of the longest where Aklan Provincial officials and employees, the municipality of Kalibo officials and employees, students from both private and public schools, barangay officials of Kalibo, employees of the national government offices, members of the military and police forces and civic organizations participated.

Cong. Villar, in her speech, spoke about the heroism of Gen. Francisco Del Castillo and the XIX Martyrs of Aklan. She then spoke highly of her beloved husband, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Senate president Manuel Villar. She related how the Villar fought poverty until today when Villar is now a billionaire. She assured the descendants of the XIX Martyrs and those present that the votes for a Manny Villar and his triumph in the May 10, 2010 election will end poverty.

Gov. Carlito S. Marquez and Cong. Joeben T. Miraflores were not able to attend the 113th commemorative program. They were represented by Atty. Diego M. Luces, provincial administrator of Aklan. /MP
