CHR Supports Creation of Truth Commission

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) supports the creation of the Truth Commission as announced by President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III in his State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA).

Chris Montano of the CHR Regional Office 6 said "they favor the creation of the Truth Commission that would handle matters brought before the commission judiciously".

"We are favorable for the Truth Commission because it would give the government agencies due process rather than their accusers just throwing accusations," Montano said.

He added that although the Truth Commission is headed by former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr., who served during the time of Ms. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and which causes other people to doubt the commission, but then the CHR maintains its confidence.

"There are times when these accusations drain the resources and cause assault to the integrity of people accused unjustly but with the Truth Commission, there would be something to really begin with or evidences gathered and cases filed appropriately," Montano said.(PNA)/MP
