Ibajay Upland Farmers Get P1.43M for Potable Water Supply


Water is life…, and the lives and livelihood of Ibajay upland farmers get a boost as another project that aims to improve their quality of lives was turned-over to its stakeholders last week, at Barangay Monlaque, Ibajay, Aklan. The P1.435,207.00 Rural Water Supply , Level II project is a joint undertaking of the Department of Agrarian Reform - Agrarian Reform Rural Infrastructure Support Program (ARISP) – the Local Government Unit of Ibajay, Aklan in cooperation with Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
Barangay Monlaque and the Monlaque Multi-purpose Cooperative accessed the Rural Water Supply as one of the five components of the project. It also hopes to improve the health conditions of the farmer beneficiaries in the community and minimize the water hauling time for women and children from the original source.
On June 21-23, 2005, DAR-Aklan in partnership with TESDA conducted a Technical Training on Rural Water System Installation to provide adequate skills such as assembling and installation and repairs for local operators in maintaining the project. Skills training on simple bookkeeping and financial management were also made available for the cooperative to ensure self-reliance in sustaining the project.
Guests during the ceremony were representatives of Hon. Florencio T. Miraflores, Congressman, Hon. Carlito S. Marquez, Governor and DAR Regional Director Alexis M. Arsenal. Atty. Daniel Y. Martelino, PARO II of Aklan will formally present the project to the beneficiaries thru Hon. Roberto M. Garcia, Jr., Municipal Mayor and Mr. Rudy Francisco, chairperson of the Monlaque Multi-purpose Cooperative. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
