3 Provinces in Panay Island Report On Rice Infestation


Three provinces in Panay island have now reported to the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Office 6 their problem on rice infestation.

DA Agriculture Center Chief Ricardo B. Saltin said that as of late they have received a report on rice infestation from the provinces of Capiz, Antique and Iloilo.

For the province of Capiz, the municipality of Mambusao has reported that 1,000 hectares of the rice fields have been affected with 2-5 hectares now on the booting or ripening stage damaged while for the municipality of Dumalag 70 hectares have been affected with three to four- hectares damaged.

Also in the municipality of Cuartero, there are 20 hectares affected with two to five hectares damaged.

The province of Antique particularly in the town of Sibalom has 18 hectares of rice fields affected with 5 hectares damaged.

Iloilo province, however, has the biggest affected area of 6,762.95 hectares and area damaged of 1,329.975 hectares.

Saltin advised the farmers to use carbamate as insecticide when spraying the plants. He said that before spraying farmers should clear the area because it is where the pests usually stay.

Farmers should also use 20 tank loads of carbamate per hectare to see its effectiveness. (PNA) /MP
